I read a lot of blogs and frequently read about how Google is punishing sites for selling page rank, punishing sites for link exchanging and punishing sites for selling links amongst other things.
Well here is a thought. Why are we letting Google dictate to us how we run our sites? If I want to sell space on my site, then that is my business – after all, that is what Google does full time.
Perhaps it is time that we told Google what we wanted. Perhaps the time is right for all bloggers to get together and tell Google what to do. If all bloggers (and other site owners) got together and removed Google altogether for just one month, no Google searches – there are plenty of other search engines out there, no adsense campaigns on blogs/websites – there are plenty of other pay-per-click sites, no referral ads – again there are plenty of alternatives there – if every blog owner and webmaster banned Google for a month, Googles income would drop so much they would crap themselves – give two or three months and they would come to us asking to be let back in.
Who made Google the website interpol that is what I want to know. Sure, they can run their business the way they want. However when so many other types of business use PR to determine how they deal with you, Google have a corporate responsibility to ensure everyone is treated not only fairly, but in a way that ensures they run their site the way they want it run and not according to a set of Google rules. To me, the most important ranking a site could have would be a popularity ranking, that is, a ranking determined by the number of visitors. I hear everyone talking about having ‘quality content’. What is ‘quality content’? What you call quality I may call crap and vice-versa.
Why are we not sticking it straight back up Googles *******?

Join me in my boycott of google adsense starting November 19, 2007. Like you say, there are plenty of other pay per click advertisers out there. Google makes money by selling advertising and then getting us to put it on our sites. How many websites or blogs have put up google adsense adds, not made the $100 minimum and google kept all the money? Probably in the thousands. Without our sites to put their adds on Google will go broke.
I gave up on adsense, because by the time I’ve made $100.00 we all may have left this planet.
I doubt if you would get everyone to stop using Google though, and it wouldn’t work unless everyone did it.
Boycotting google adsense? Interesting concept – it kind of reminds me of that little guy in china who had a small corner grocery store with (in Chinese) a name that sounded exactly like “Google”. He was suing Google to make them change their name because it was confusing his customers.
As for the whole page rank controversy. I really do not understand why it ISN”T based solely on number of visitors. Why do they have to make it so complicated? Yes, people would cheat. People always figure out how to cheat. There will be cheating no matter what they do.
My blog’s all about standing up against Google. But for making traffic besides their search engine. Maybe joining together is exactly what we need.
Can we really seriously do that? I am in
Cheers!
