U Comment I Follow

By Les Scammell, December 6, 2007 10:23 pm

Part of blogging is sharing. Why do I write? Probably because I want to, and probably because I want others to hear what I have to say. They say that content is important. That is fine if you are looking to get 1000’s of visitors every day, all of them clicking on your ads etc. Of course you can also loose sight of why you started blogging in the first place. I know I have.
.

I want you to hear what I have to say. I also want to hear what you have to say. This is done in two ways. First, you leave a comment related to my article. I read your comment, and, particularly if you make reference to a relevant article on your site, I go and read it – and perhaps so do some of the readers who follow after you. Then, if I like what I read, I leave a comment.

.

A side benefit of leaving a comment is that you also leave ‘tracks’. Your URL is also included in the comments file. Search engines are able to read the comments and trace the URL, thereby determining the importance of the commentator – it all helps with rankings. Most blogs have a built in no-follow to all comments – WordPress is no different. I have plugin installed that disables this no-follow so that all comment urls are followed.

.

If you use WordPress or any other blog platform, then check out this article of Andy Beard’s and join the do-follow movement. If you wish to join the movement then install a relevant plugin then display one of the badges from Randa Clay.

I’m not commenting for the sake of being followed, but because I wanted to tell you I like the new look!

    Hi Les,
    Didn’t hear from you.
    How are we progressing ?

I recently noticed that on Blogger Blogs there is no longer an option to put in a URL. You can use your blogger profile or you can use a nickname but no where can you put the url to a website or blog.

I had not seen any buzz on this… It looks to me like they are doing their best to circumvent the “do follow” movement.

Have you heard, read, or seen anything about this? It’s just the blogger blogs that are affected.

  5. Hi
Big brother is always watching you
I left my comment so he can follow me…i’ll bore him to tears
