I take the validation links out of the sidebar simply because none of the themes validate anyway. Google and yahoo's websites don't even validate. Most searches you do for any phrase, the top listings lead to websites that also don't validate. There are good reasons to have valid code, such as load time, making sure it displays in all browsers, etc. but I'm an seo guy and it just doesn't seem to make any difference from that perspective. my 2 cents worth.
