How I Quadrupled My Blog Income
How I Quadrupled My Blog Income is quite a statement – yet it is true. I have tried many different ad units on this site. I have tried Adsense with little luck. I have also tried some of the other pay-per-click ads like Widgetbucks – all to no avail. Text link ads don’t work – I do not have a high enough PR nor do I get high traffic.
Not only that, at one stage I had accounts with six or seven different advertisers and that meant six or seven different ad units on my page. Keeping track of each of these accounts can be time consuming and a little dis-heartening when they are only incrementing by cents each day. With Adsense there were days when I didn’t get a click – not even enough traffic to get a token couple of cents for impressions.
I now really have only two accounts, one is Project Wonderful which i find interesting. My other account is with the Rubicon Project. This is one concept that is proving a real windfall for me. The beauty of the Rubicon Project is that it displays ads from nearly all of the major ad networks, yet I need only have the one account.
The Rubicon Project sources the ad providers – I provide the ad unit – in my case I have three ad units, one on each sidebar and one that often appears below the top post. The ad units display ads from any one of the advertisers that are connected with the Rubicon Project. At the end of the month I collect just the one check from the one account.
For small time publishers this is ideal. A lot of ad providers, such as Google, have a minimum target that must be reached before any payout is made. With Google of course it $100. A lot of others have $20 or $25 as the minimum. Now if you have six accounts – excluding Google – that would still equate to over $120 in earnings before you get a payout – add Google and that becomes $200.
With the Rubicon Project, check payouts are made once your account hits $25 – for others you are paid on the 15th of the month through PayPal.
What ad are displayed? You get to choose which ad companies you are willing to display ads for and what style of ads – they do publish Google Adsense ads as well. You also get to choose the size of your ad unit.
My experience has been at least a 4 x income increase although on my current figures that will probably now be 6 x – yes six times my income from traditional advertisers. The only drawback I can find so far is that they don’t have any affiliate program – but then I have never used an affiliate program before so why should I start now.
Being able to sign up to half a dozen advertisers including Google but only needing one account is a real plus for me. Their advertisers include: Google, Adbrite, Shopzilla, CPX, E-Type and Active Response Group to name just a few. You can adjust the ratio of each advertiser if you find one is working better than another. Their statistics screens are great providing in depth information for each ad unit, each day and each advertiser.
From my initial experience with the Rubicon Project I certainly would recommend them all publishers. Living in Australia most of my online business is done via email – I will get around to Skype one day – I have the headset – I just need to create the account – I digress. I did have one question that threw me and sent off an email to support. I received phone call around 6:00 pm from one of the support personnel who patiently explained the problem along with any other issues I had – now that was 6pm my time – it was 0:30 in the morning his time – now that is customer services. As a publisher I actually feel welcomed and valued. Unlike other advertisers who have made me feel like ‘they are doing me a favor by allowing me to publish their ads” – c’mon it is my site – I do deserve a bit of respect. I have found some respect through the Rubicon Project – check them out.

wow nice share i will try it.. thanks for the share…
I signed up, but it seems to still be in beta. Ive been really unhappy with my current Ad agent (thats what they are, agents), so I’ll give this one a try.

Nice work bro, So whats the dollar amount if you dont mind me asking you pulled in. My self I am sick of cpc networks and am getting very close to really hitting the private market where the real money is. I dont need John Chow type of income but enoght to stay home full time when my back is healed would be nice.I love what I do with my days now.
Signed up for the beta Les. I’m considering an ad make over and will likely be moving away from Commission Junction and possibly Link Share though that one has been paying (with no minimums). We’ll see. I had seen you’d discussed this Rubicon Project before but I hadn’t really checked it out until now. Thanks for the knowledge!
Peace………….T

Mert

Thanks, I’ll check it out! I have yet to feel that my blogs are properly “monetized”… maybe this will be just what is needed.
Looks interesting. I know myself, I hate going to 4 different sites to check my stats and commission. This looks promising.
