Bloggers uniting in an act of kindness is a novel idea that I hope over time can grow into something thats huge and really benefits the communities we live in.
My act of kindness is not really a submission so much as an announcement and a statement of the general lethargy I sometimes find within the blogging community.
I started a click for Xmas charity appeal hoping to raise at least $250 to provide toys for children in less well off environments. These children would at least have some semblance of a normal Christmas and find at little happiness on Christmas Day. Hopefully the parent(s) would also find a little happiness in the knowledge that their children are at least having a Christmas – a little less guilt for the parent(s) who for a variety of reasons are not able to buy much for their kids.
To be honest I have been a little disappointed at the response. I have had a regular group who have loyally visited my blogs over the last ten days. I offer my sincerest thanks to them.
The final total for visitors stands at 2612 visitors to my three sites. This represents $130.60 to which we added at the start of the campaign $120 from accrued income from advertising and pay per post – a grand total of $250.60.
We made it – just – although I would have liked to raise $500. Having said that, we putting in another $250 from our own pocket to raise the total to $500. These toys will be delivered to the various charities over the next two days ready for delivery to families this weekend.
I am not looking for plaudits from this venture – rather looking to raise the awareness of the blogging community that there are very worthwhile causes such as the ‘Bloggers unite for kindness’ cause. Rather than paying a passing interest and moving on – we should all participate. I am not totally discouraged by the lack of involvement in my cause – after all – who am I? To most bloggers I am no one looking to get extra traffic – and of course I was – we always intended to donate the $500 – however we hoped to get a little more interest in what was happening – perhaps next time.
For the next cause – I am offering into the prize pool a dot com registration for 12 months together with 12 months web hosting. The value is not high, however I know two very happy winners from my last competition that are very pleased with the move from third party blog hosts to self hosting.
To all bloggers who have taken the effort to read this far – lets all get behind all bloggers who are trying to improve the lives of others – if one persons live is made happier for just five minutes – we have done our job.
